[net.lang] Princeton FORTH ver 2.0 for the VAX posted to net.sources

wls@astrovax.UUCP (William L. Sebok) (06/26/84)

The Princeton FORTH compiler for VAX unix has been posted to net.sources.
This is a full 32 bit implementation that features the generation of fast,
in-line code rather than the usual Forth threaded structure. It also can
allocate for itself as much (or as little) as desired of the virtual memory
available to a process. There is a great feeling of power in being able to
say:
	5000000 ALLOT

Some of its other features are:
  1) A character string stack, with a full set of string operators. 2) A
floating point stack, and 3) A set of Unix interface words.

This compiler was recently discussed at the Rochester Forth Conference earlier
this June. It includes the extended addressing proposal made by the working
group at that conference.
