Having read Backus' paper, I think I know what is meant by "functional programming." I don't know of any similar paper for "applicative programming", but have guessed that it means something similar what you get with "pure lisp". Would somebody let me know if I've got this correct? Also, pointers to a paper that tries to define "applicative programming" would be appreciated. <mike
