I'm looking for a COBOL programs of almost any size to benchmark COBOL
compilers for capability, speed, etc.  Does anyone have a set of
programs requiring little or no I/O setup or know where such programs
can be obtained ?

See "An Empirical Analysis of COBOL Programs" by Al-Jarrah and Torsun,
Software Practice and Experience 9, pp. 341-359 (1979).  Al-Jarrah and
Torsun (from Brunel U, Middlesex, England) claim to have 340 COBOL
programs on mag tape at Brunel.
