[net.lang] ANSI Basic Standard?

rpb@ukc.UUCP (R.P.Bird) (01/14/85)

Does anyone out there know the status of the Draft Proposed Standard
for ANSI Basic (X3J2/82-06 *not* minimal Basic).

I.e. Has it been ratified by the standards bodies? If not, is there
any current standard and could someone give me a pointer to it, please.

		Many thanks in advance,

			Bob Bird.

The ANSI Basic standard has just finished its second public review.
The committee, X3J2, of which I am a member, will meet at the end of
January to consider the comments received during the review period. We
hope that we will vote to send the standard to X3, which would then
take about a year before branding it an official ANSI standard.

We are working closely with the two parallel European committees, with
the result that the current draft is the same for all three groups.

The current document is number X3J2/84-26, dated 15.June.84, and
occupies 772k bytes ... I promise not to post it :-)

As with all ANSI documents, you can order the draft standard from ANSI.
(Sorry, I don't have their address here.) Folks in Europe might try
ISO or ECMA, the other two standards organizations involved.
