[net.lang] My tongue's better than your tongue . . .

rf@wu1.UUCP (01/31/85)

I've lately noticed a large number of flames in these groups, all of the
form:

Your favorite language stinks. I love my favorite language. It's better
than your favorite language because (here insert some slander on someone
  else's favorite language).

It's difficult to comment rationally on something you don't know well, still
harder to comment rationally on something you hate. Such commentary is
invariably wrong-headed and often outright wrong. I read the net.lang
groups because I like discussions of programming and because I sometimes
learn techniques from the groups. I'm don't enjoy nasty postings -- and
what else are these slanders?

May I suggest that such discussions be moved off to net.flame? They do none
of us interested in *using* our favorite langauges any good at all, nor are
they likely to persuade people to stop using their favorite languages.
