I have now recieved, from Roger R. Gowland, the results of the survey
to find song titles that do not appear in the lyrics. As he asked me
to post the results, I am doing so; so without any further preamble from me,
here is the file I recieved:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------If you remember, I asked for examples of songs in which the title was not
actually sung. This was an attempt to prove my local radio d-j was out of
line when suggesting such an occurence was a rarity.
I can sympathise with anyone who argues that 100 examples in the last
20-ish years of top 50 US/UK hits is not very many, but since I started
the quest I have lost sight of the original goal. Some of these songs I
have never heard of, so I take those titles on trust. With apologies for
removing some remarks from some contributors, here are the first 100
titles I received. A few contributions were (I feel) a bit "picky",
like 'the' in the title and 'a' in the song, etc so in order to avoid
argument from my local radio dj I have left out some such examples.
