Folks, is it really necessary to post duplicate responses on top of every "RE:foo"? This latest discussion on Scientific programming has about 3 legitimate responses posted about 30 times. All you're doing is wasting my time and transmission time. Mike McNelly hplabs!hpfcla!mike

Mike, I think that this is a problem with the notes gateway when it sucks in the readnews format messages...it should be able to recognize not only 'Re: <subject>' but also 'RE: <subject>' and 're: <subject>' so that any referential posting would be correctly assumed to be a response to a previously posted base note. Failing this, the notes program should be intelligent enough to take ONE of the "orphaned responses" and make it a 'pseudo-base-note' and have all the other related messages tacked onto it as responses... It ain't the fault of the posters, though! -- Dave
