In the August issue of BYTE there was a excellent series of articles on declarative languages. I recommend it to all. In that issue, they mentioned that there was a public domain HOPE available on their network, BYTEnet. (Old number 1-617-861-9774, current number 1-617-861-9764.) After a several dozen attempts at various times of the day to log on to BYTEnet, I have given up. (Does BYTEnet really exist?) Would anyone know of another source for HOPE? Perhaps there is some less frequently used bbs that has it or a users group or a generous person that would supply it for a reasonable media/copying fee. (They also claim to have a public domain PROLOG.)

In the previous posting, which I forgot to include here, a complaint was raised about BYTEnet Listings, BYTE magazine's BBS system, indicating that the person was unable to get through. Only too true! BYTEnet Listings was responsible for shutting down the long-distance access to the ENTIRE state of New Hampshire some months ago, due to the enormous number of calls they recieved. To get the Public Domain HOPE or PROLOG, you should first try your local BBS systems, or the BBS run by Computer Languages magazine... -- Mike Farren uucp: {dual, hplabs}!well!farren Fido: Sci-Fido, Fidonode 125/84, (415)655-0667 USnail: 390 Alcatraz Ave., Oakland, CA 94618

About BYTEnet listings, it did indeed cause a problem when the access was in New Hampshire. The access numbers are now in Massachusetts, on an exchange that has many other dial-in numbers. That still doesn't mean you'll get through. For what its worth, I think that this software is available on Bix. It costs a good deal more, though.
