[net.lang] Occam under Unix?

jeff@pixar (Jeffrey Mock) (02/25/86)

Does anyone know of an Occam compiler for the transputer that runs
under 4.2bsd? Some sort of university product would be great. Inmos
sells software for the IBM-PC and VAX VMS, both of these environments
are distasteful for anything longer than an evaluation period.

In response to the inquiry about the availability of an Occam compiler
under UNIX:

Yes, a UNIX version of the Occam compiler is available from the Computing
Laboratory, University of Kent at Canterbury. Dr. Peter H. Welch
is the person to contact there. Their distribution will run under
either 4.2bsd (& I've used also used it under 4.3bsd) as well as System V.
They include 'occ', an Occam compiler, and 'oced', which resembles the
Inmos 'OPS' editor cum checker. Handling charge is about 12 pounds.

In response to Jeff Mock's query about an Occam compiler for the transputer,
Jeff Elman responded in net.arch with information on the Unix system available
from Peter Welch at the University of Kent. This is a perfectly usable system,
but it does not compile to the transputer. 'occ' produces vax code which
can then be executed. It is thus good for writing and debugging occam programs,
but it cannot be used to produce code for the transputer.

We at Cornell are also very interested in locating an Occam compiler for
the transputer which runs under 4.[2-3] bsd. Any leads out there?
