[net.rec.coins] Forget the pennies

stevans (11/10/82)

To the people who replied to my Lincoln cent article: I can't reply
to you directly because our mailer only says your mail came from "root".
I'm afraid I don't need them in such bulk anyway. Sorry to make
you type me messages. The only good reply came from someone here.

I don't know why I submitted my Lincoln penny query.... Do I want to
drive all over the country buying them? Do I expect people to mail
me their coins?
I guess I just figured net.rec.coins was underutilized. It is. Does
anyone know what we should talk about here?

Some starters:
   1. Is it true that the copper/zinc cent is going to be phased out
next year? What will replace it? Very small platinum coins?
       Squares of aluminum foil?
   2. Anyone seen the 1982 Canadian cents? They're not really round!
They're polygonal! Is this so the blind can identify coins
by feel? Really; that was one of the major complaints about the
US Susan B. Anthony dollar coin -- She looked and felt like
George Washington. I mean -- that woman was ugly.

Sure, the picture of S. B. Anthony is ugly on her coins. It's
the best they could do, though. If they put realistic tits on
a coin, it wouldn't slide down vending machine slots!

Come on Charles! If they put tits on a coin, they would also have the
sense to make the slots bigger. The government subsidizes vending as
much as anything else (like tobacco and old people).
