I joined AAII (American Association of Individual Investors) about 7 or 8 months ago, and so far it has worked out very well. A year's membership was $39.00, which seems to be peanuts in the investment advisory game. That gets you an annual issue of "The Individual Investor's Guide to No-Load Mutual Funds", which gives you 5 year performance figures for all no-load funds as well as a brief statement of investment objectives and some other information. It also has a good section on how to evaluate funds based on your specific needs. The AAII Journal has had some very good articles, including a three-part series on how to read Financial Statements. The Journal (and AAII) make no specific recommendations of stocks or companies; all they are doing is providing background information. However, for the novice investor (e.g. me) it is well worth the (tax deductible) money. I don't have the address with me at the moment, but I will be happy to post it if there is enough interest.
