It is true that having the securities in "the street name", i.e.,
leaving them in the broker's hands, solves the problem of signatures.
Yet, there is one big disadvantage in having such an arrangement - you
cannot participate in dividend reinvestment plans since these require
that the securities be registered in the name of their owner(s).  If
dividend reinvestment isn't your bag then Rowan's arrangement is the
answer, as long as your broker is a member of SIPC (Securities
Investor) or some other similar outfit.
