Of the 3 responses I got from my query on favorite stocks, 2 didn't offer any names, but instead, requested that I give a few. Well here goes. At 3 1/2, on the AMEX, I think Beefstake Charlie's is a good buy. Beefstake Charlie's operates and franchises a chain of restaurants located along the Northern Eastern Seaboard and Florida. Just ended their worst year ever and are expecting a turn around the second half of 84. Also, on the AMEX, I really like a little company called Designatronics. This company's primary business is the manufacturing and selling of precision-designed components, along with producing a wide range of custom made electro-mechanical assemblies. Designatronics has over 7000 active accounts covering industries such as instrumentation, computer peripherals, military hardware, aerospace, telecommunications, robotics, and cable TV. Major customers in 1981 and 1982 were: IBM, Sperry, and Magnovox. Last year their biggest customer was General Dynamics. For years the company has been a leading supplier of components used in the contruction of robots. Within the last year, the company has itself entered the robotics field and has commenced development of a small specialty table top robot, micro-processor driven, with specialized custom software to be used in a variety of educational, research, and light manufacturing assembly applications. Stock is currently selling around 6 (last year's EPS were .53, with 2.2 million shares outstanding a little over 50% of which are closely held leaving a float of about 1 million shares). An OTC issue I like is a company called Aerosystems. This company is engaged in the sale and servicing of electronic and other aviation equipment used in commercial and general aviation. It sells aviation equipment, both new and used, throughout the world (with emphasis on the used). Aerosystems does business in 80 countries with a customer base of over 3000. The kicker lies in their exclusive marketing rights to the CD-3000, an aircraft fuel saving computer that weighs about 2.5 pounds and fits into the control panel of a multi-engine aircraft. Tests have indicated that this sucker can save up to 5% of a flight's cruise fuel (30% of the cost of running an airline is fuel related). At 3 1/2 I see limited downside risk in this stock. All 3 company's mentioned have sound balance sheets and have been around many years. More information is available upon asking. Just a few more names: Tech-Sym at 15; Jeffrey Martin at 7; Sigma Research at 7; Kevlin Microwave at 6; Bingo King at 6 1/2....... Thurman
