Are Silver Certificates (paper currency printed many years ago) worth more than their face value? I've got a friend who works in a bank and has collected quite a few of these, but has no idea whether they're worth the trouble of saving. -- Scott Wiesner {allegra, ucbvax, cornell}!nbires!scott

Silver certificates are now only items of numismatic interest. Used to, when the US dollar was based on the silver standard, one could turn them in and get silver for them. Now, the value of the certificates is mainly determined by the: (1) Date and mint mark (2) Condition of the silver certificate A visit to a local coin dealer may be appropriate. P.S. I'll take them if your friend doesn't want them! Daniel Jackson usenet: {ihnp4,pur-ee}!uiucdcs!jackson csnet: jackson@uiucdcs.Uiuc
