<*> First some background information -- I am 22 years old, single and am making around $22K a year. I have been doing so for a year now and while living frugally have saved $10,000. This money is currently sitting in a credit union account receiving 7.75%. I expect to continue to save at a high rate ($5000 a year?) for a couple of years. About the only thing I have decided is that I should open an IRA - for the tax benefits. I have spoken to a friend who works for First Investors (don't ever mix business and friendship) and she recomends their "Fund for Income" -- a mutual fund. I know almost nothing about investing, but don't just want to hand my money over without understanding what is happening to it and what my other options are. I just finished reading the articles in this group which were still on our system and found mention of 3 different books/series for investing. I would like comments on those and pointers to any other books/magazines which would be helpful. Eventually, I may try to directly control my investments. Initially though, I suspect that I will probably need professional guidance. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
