[net.sport.hockey] The Indianapolis Blues

baarmstrong (02/02/83)

With the sale and relocation of the St. Louis Blues a foregone conclusion,
has a feasible location yet been proposed? Both Saskatoon and Seattle would
require not only the building of a new arena, but would also make a reshuffling
of the divisions necessary. Why not move the team to Indianapolis? The
arena used by the now defunct WHA is available ( since the CHL Checkers play
in the old Fairgrounds Coliseum ). Indianapolis is a reasonable distance from
Detroit, Toronto, Chicago, and Minnesota so the division could remain intact.
Indianapolis is trying to become a major-league town with bids in for both
a major-league baseball team and an NFL team for the new Hoosier Dome.
And finally, many of the Blues players have objected to moving to Canada because
of the taxation structure. Make everybody happy.....The Indy Blues.

Still an Indy boy at heart,

                              Bruce Armstrong

I have difficulty believing that a basketball-oriented town
like Indianapolis could muster enough fans to support an NHL team.

The Seattle-Tacoma area has a new facility for hockey and basketball,
seating capacity ~20K I think.

THAT would make a nice place for the Blues.

All you Americans are too selfish. Indianapolis? Seattle-Tacoma? Saskatoon
has the required spirit, and fans that know the game of hockey. As for
details like a new arena, do remember how big the Calgary Corral is?

Any predictions for the Final Four in Grand Forks this year?

How about the Sioux from UND and the Gophers from U of M from
the West. What's the word in the East this year?

pal (02/15/83)

I hope the final four in Grand Forks doesn't include both MInn. and N.D.,
or else WISCONSIN wouldn't be included (Go Big Red!).
Seriously, I have seen Minn. and was very impressed by them. I hope they
win the title if Wisc. don't. North Dakota are a goon squad, and the fans
in Grand Forks are pretty gross.
>From the east, Providence are supposed to be loaded with talent, comparable
to Minn. (I haven't seen them in action, this from a scout report on a local
radio station. The same source says that no team this year is as good as
Wisconsin and North Dakota were last year, though Minn. and Providence have
young players with the potential.)
Sorry for the rather rambling message. Lets hear from more college hockey fans!
