As someone who has followed WCHA hockey for over 8 years, I can certainly attest that North Dakota DOES play goon hockey. Aggressive, defensive hockey? Once in Grand Forks, they started a major brawl BEFORE the opening faceoff. Real defense that. North Dakota fans are knowledgeable? Right. In the last few years, they've taken to throwing real dead badgers on the ice when the Wisconsin Badgers visit. Real class and knowledge of the subtlies of the game. If the WCHA had anything approaching strict enforcement of the rules against fighting, the Souix would skate 3 men for 60 minutes a game.
