[net.sport.hockey] Chicago-Minnesota Playoffs?

troyer (04/07/83)

This actually might not come about! I watched last night's Minnesota-Toronto
game on the tube, and in my opinion, the North Stars got lucky. (I might be
a little prejudiced though.) The first goal scored by Mn. came at about :34 of the
first period, and that was because Palmateer, the Toronto goalie, cleared the puck
right to Tim Young, who passed it rinkwide, for what was basically an open
net shot. And their second goal wasn't much better. Palmateer had a failure
with the equiptment, so they removed him for a bit, hoping to get by. But
ten seconds after they did that, the replacement goalie failed to cover up
the puck after Neal Broten brought it from behind the net. As a result, Broten
was able to slide the puck across the goal face to Ciccarelli, who then jammed
it home.
Two goals that shouldn't have happened. But I shouldn't get down on them
too much, because Palmateer played out of his mind. He's the only reason
that Toronto was in the game at the end. He'll be a force to be reckoned with.
Thoughts about the Mn.-Chicago playoff. It'll be interesting to see what
happens, now that Chicago lost (sob!) 4-2 last night in the Chicago Stadium
(which is a difficult thing to do), and Minnesota won. An interseting idea
is that Toronto beat Minnesota something like 6 out of the 9 times these two
teams played, and if I remember correctly, Chicago didn't do too well against
St.Louis also in the regular season. With both of these teams playing
opponents that give them trouble, wouldn't it be something to see a St. Louis-
Toronto series. (Not that I really want that!) It would be some upset.
