[net.sport.hockey] New college league?

citrin@ucbvax.UUCP (09/25/83)

From the Sporting News:
"Boston University, Boston College, Northeastern, Providence,
Clarkson, St. Lawrence, Maine, and New Hampshire have announced
plans for a new collegate league, which will begin play in
	 1984-85."

Does anybody know anything about this? The new league will certainly be
competitive, but this looks like curtains for competitive Ivy League hockey.

Looks like another case of regional teams breaking traditional conference
ties in an attempt to cut travel costs while still maintaining a high level
of competition. Same thing happened a few years back in the WCHA. The
Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana teams dropped out to form the CCHA, as road
trips to Colorado and North Dakota were sapping their already meager
budgets. I'm afraid it's only forestalling the inevitable - Notre Dame
dropped hockey soon after the realignment.
