[net.sport.hockey] WCHA Playoffs

fargo (02/28/83)

Last weekend's WCHA 2 game total goals elimination round:

		DULUTH 13 DENVER 4 7-2, 6-2
		WISCONSIN 8 CC 4 3-2, 5-2

Coming weekend series:

		HOME TEAM VISITING TEAM
		North Dakota Wisconsin
		Minnesota Duluth

Wisconsin is the only WCHA team NOT to have beaten NoDak this year -
but this is the playoffs! Last year in Grand Forks, Wisconsin beat
UND 9-0 and 3-1 in the playoffs but couldn't beat them at Providence.

Playoffs have started.
Last Saturday-Sunday(Feb25-6)

Minnesota 3,4	Colorado 1,1
Wisconsin 5,8	Denver 3,5

Next weekend
Minnesota at North Dakota
Wisconsin at UM-Duluth

Both matchups are total-goals series (two games).
Minnesota are 3-3 v. North Dakota, but swept the Sioux two weeks ago.
Duluth are 6-0 v. Wisconsin this year, have just won their first WCHA
championship ever.

The NCAA's are almost upon us! Who do you like?
(I say winner of Wisconsin-Duluth)

Playoff predictions:

As much as I would like to see the Sioux win, I think Minnesota will
play Duluth for the championship. I know that Gino has skated the
Sioux very hard since I was back for the ND High School Tourney last
weekend. The Sioux have Gord Shervan back from the Canadian Olympic
team but I doubt they will beat the surging Gophers. WCHAers say
that Duluth has the horses in the forward lines and will not be
denied. I concur but since hockey is such an unpredictable game ...
The East is not making great waves so at least 3 should go to the
NCAAs from the WCHA this year.

Note: If Duluth wins this weekend, they will not play the championship
in Duluth - scheduling snafu! If they play Minnesota, they will play
at the St. Paul Civic center. If they play North Dakota, the game is
scheduled for Williams Arena (Gopher home).

Would someone send me mail regarding the results of the WCHA
Playoffs this weekend please? I know that Minn beat CC 3-1
and Wis beat Den 5-3 on Saturday night but I haven't been
able to get any Sunday results. I am at either bscteaps!jmh
or ltuxa!jmh in Lisle, Illinois. Thanks.
