<==== yum yum ====> Is it true, or is there any truth to the rumour, that Trottier became a US citizen because he didn't want to play for Team Canada under Glen Sather? Not that I blaim him ... Trottier himself said that he's been living in the U.S. for about 8 or 9 years, his wife's American, his kids are American, he works for an American team, he's paid in American dollars, he owns an American house, etc., so he figures he's much more American than Canadian now and he's grateful to the U.S. for all it's given him, and the best way to repay the country is to play for it in the most important international hockey tournament. However, if it had something to do with Sather I'm sure he wouldn't say anything about it. It's been rumoured that Trottier is not too thrilled about all the hype over Gretzky, although I would think that playing for the Canadian team would be a good chance to prove that he's a better player and silence all the Gretzky freaks. (Actually, maybe not because Trottier wouldn't have scored three goals against West Germany, he would have just checked the Russians to death, set up a couple of important goals against them, and increased Bossy's effectiveness.) Maybe he thought that with Sather coaching he wouldn't have a fair chance and he might not get used in important situations. -- Jeff Richardson, DCIEM, Toronto (416) 635-2073 {linus,ihnp4,uw-beaver,floyd}!utcsrgv!dciem!jeff {allegra,ihnp4,linus,decvax}!utzoo!dciem!jeff
