[net.sport.hockey] CCHA playoffs

In CCHA playoff action this past weekend, Michigan State won the CCHA post-
season tournament for the fourth year in a row. The Spartans looked unbeatable
as they mauled Ohio State 8-0. Michigan State again looked in top form the
next night as they beat Lake Superior 5-1. Michigan State filled every
position on the all-tournament team, as well.
With the win, Michigan State will host either the #3 or #4 seed from the
East (perhaps Harvard or Boston University) at home on March 22-23.

The CCHA drew a total of 33,200+ fans for the semis and finals in Joe
Louis Arena, including 20,067 for the finals (wow!).
The consolation match saw Ohio State beat Bowling Green 7-4 after the
Falcons had lost 4-1 to Lake Superior the night before. OSU finishes at
19-20-2 while BG ends at 21-21.

Whoever plays Michigan State next week had better be up. The Spartans
looked the best that I have ever seen them. This is a solid team which is
up and ready to play hockey. The team is essentially the same team that
finished fourth last year, however this team has one more year of experience.

Lake Superior should get the other CCHA bid into the NCAAs. The Soo
Lakers will probably play at RPI or Boston College. Those teams shouldn't
take Lake Superior lightly, but they shouldn't be overly concerned either;
Lake Superior has no playoff experience, and it shows. I think that they were
intimidated by the thought of playing Michigan State and fell flat on their
faces - not that even a sharp Lake Superior team would have much of a chance
beating the Spartans.

					Go Spartans!
