Well, I was proud of myself for picking 7 of the 8 winners in the first round of the playoffs, but then I bombed out in the second round, picking only one out of four (though I missed the Montreal-Quebec series by only one goal since I called Montreal in 7). However, I wouldn't have been willing to put my money where my mouth was on any of those picks except the one I got right (Chicago), plus I always like to pick a couple of upsets even if I think their chance of occuring is a little less than 50%. However, this time I see no chance at all for an upset, and I would definitely be willing to put money on these picks: CAMPBELL CONF.: EDMONTON over CHICAGO in 4. Edmonton is simply a much better team that Chicago, and they're well rested, while Chicago had to fight for every win with Minnesota. The Oilers blew away Winnipeg, who were the hottest team in the league and are a much better team than Chicago anyway, so this one probably won't even be worth watching. WALES CONF: PHILADELPHIA over QUEBEC in 5. As many have said, the Flyers are young and inexperienced, but they play with the poise and confidence of crusty old veterans, but with the drive and desire of youngsters. The Nordiques are physically beaten and worn out from their series with Montreal, and they haven't got the consistency needed to get very far with one of the league's most solid teams. However, most of the games should be interesting, because the Flyers aren't a team that overwhelms their opponents the way the Oilers do, and excellent goalies Lindbergh and Gosselin will keep the score from getting too high. I'll wait until the end of these series to pick the Cup winner, but I have a feeling I won't be nearly as confident about that pick as I am with these. -- Jeff Richardson, DCIEM, Toronto (416) 635-2073 {linus,ihnp4,uw-beaver,floyd}!utcsrgv!dciem!jeff {allegra,ihnp4,linus,decvax}!utzoo!dciem!jeff
