[net.sport.hockey] USA Cable Hockey Coverage

<<< he shoots, he scores >>>

Is anyone else out there disgusted with the USA Cable employees? Gary Green
constantly wanders when he talks and ends up in dead-ends, Al Albert misses
half the action, and Al Trautwig tries to hard to be cute. Mike Liut, added
for the finals for "expert" analysis, sounds like he is doing a job interview.
A couple of examples from tonight's (game 4 of the finals):
   1) Gary Green is extolling the virtues of Mark Howe. Then Howe makes a
sliding breakup of an Oiler 2-on-1. Green goes ga-ga over the play.
Of course, he neglected to mention that Howe started the rush with
      a terrible pass.
   2) Al Trautwig is outside on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River.
He is talking about the state of the ice surfaces in Edmonton and
Philadelphia and points to some unmelted snow. He proceeds to call
it GLACIAL ICE that NEVER melts all summer! With sports coverage
like this it is no wonder people in the USA have such misconceptions
      of life in Canada.

Sure makes me long for Hockey Night in Canada!

Not disgusted, just amused. I consider these guys to be the
minor leagues and don't expect much. Actually sometimes I like
their brand of honest mistakes and opinioning better than the
big money guys like Brent Musberger. Part of my view, though,
is due to my being able to watch them on satellite. They're
lots of fun to watch during commercials and before the game.
Of course Al Trautwig is leaving now..."called up" by ABC to
do who knows what, so we won't have him to kick around any more.
And Al Albert...wonder if he's related to NBC's/WOR's Marv Albert.

I had the option of chosing between HNIC and USA, and chose HNIC (unless
Dan Kelly was doing the play-by-play). Good thing I missed the introduction
for game 4 on USA, otherwise I would have had to miss the game because my
television set would have had a hockey puck shot through it!

Al and Marv Albert are brothers. I think there is a 3rd
Albert brother is sportscasting but I don't know his name.

It is really nice, though, that SOME netlanders saw the finals in Edmonton.
Organization: Bowling Green State University, OH
Lines: 22

There are some of us (make that U.S.) hockey addicts that had to read it in
the papers since CBC didn't broadcast the games in Edmonton.

This is one fan that was VERY disappointed at this decision.
