The recent mention of Arthur Brown's solo material reminds me of the most unlikely record to contain his voice: Bob Calvert's "Captain Lockheed and the Starfighters." This album, a solo effort by one of Hawkwind's mainstays, is a classic theme album, telling how the Lockheed Company, upon being told that their F-14 Starfighter wasn't safe enough for US pilots, began to sell it to the Germans; the plane became known as 'The WidowMaker' not too long there- after. Arthur Brown sings the role of "The Gremlin", who is responsible for the breakdowns, and does a marvelous job. A hard to find album, but worth the effort. --Dave Axler
