[net.music] Casey Casem's Top 100

lo@harvard.UUCP (Bert S.F. Lo) (12/30/85)

Once again, I've missed Casey's Top 100 countdown. Does anyone out there have
his Top 100 for 1985? Please note that even though he normally counts down the
weekly top 40 as listed in Billboard, his Top 100 of the year differs from the
magazine's, so don't give me their list. His list is usually better than theirs
since his goes from December to December whereas theirs goes from October to
October. Also Casey seems to use a better ranking scheme (does anyone know what
his system is?). How can Billboard claim that Careless Whisper did better than
Like A Virgin, when the former was at #1 for only 2 weeks while the latter was
#1 for 6 weeks, and both seemed to stay around the hot 100 equally long?

Does anyone is the Boston area know when Casey's Top 40 countdown is on and on
what station?

Because my copy of Billboard is at home, I can only say this from memory, but
this year the Hot 100 of the year goes from October through December 7. The
December 7 date may be off a little bit, but it does gor through December
sometime.

The radio stations around here dropped American Top 40 a few years ago. Four
different stations had it and couldn't make a go of it. I have most of the
shows from about a five year period. I don't mean taped either, I mean the
actual records. One of the real collectors items is the show that happened
around John Lennon's death. A new last hour was rushed out that had a piece
about the death. The records that I have are the original non-aired disk +
the disk that was aired.

I do miss listening and collecting that show. We now have Rick Dees.

I believe CK rates 'em on position within the Top 40, while Billboard rates
'em on position within the Hot 100.

Beats me! I'm still trying to figure out how Booker T. and the M.G.'s cover
of "Groovin'" made it to #21 for 1967 when it didn't even peak that high! (It
wasn't on the charts an inordinate length of time, either!)

I haven't listened in a while - too depressing - but last thing I knew it
was on Sunday morning (around 11) on WROR (or maybe it was WHTT).

AWR

PS: You used to be able to write away for a hardcopy of CK's year-end survey -
any station that broadcasts AT40 would know if this is still true (and where
to write).

Boy, I don't know where you got your information, but here are the facts about:

	Groovin'	Booker T. & The M.G.'s	Stax 224

Date entered Hot 100 (Billboard): 7/29/67
Highest Position on Hot 100: 21
	Total Weeks On Chart: 12

	Position on Billboard Top 100 (1967):	72

I hope the above puts your mind to rest.
