[net.music] Speaking of acapella

wed@drutx.UUCP (DeibertWE) (04/29/85)

Apologies if this group has been mentioned already. If it has I missed it.
A group called "The New Creations" from California has what I think is a
new album out on the "Big J" label. Roughly 1/2 of the album is acapella.
The instrumentation on the other half is very sparse and is provided by
Big Jay McNeely on sax, Willie Egan on piano and a guiter player whose name
escapes me now. The album is a good mix of ballads and jump tunes. It's
mostly R&B with a doo-wop flavor. The 1st tenor sounds like a very young
Smokey Robinson. Strangely enough Smokey is one of the people the album
is dedicated to. The album starts out with an introduction number sung
to the tune of the "Heartbeats" old classic, "I Won't Be The Fool."
It's a very nice album to put on and listen to all the way through.
