[net.micro.pc] UNIX on the PC -- from USENIX....

taylor (01/29/83)

My roommate went to USENIX on Thursday (alas, I had a DOD Program
Spec due Friday, so I couldn't take any time off) and amongst all the
promo throw-aways, there was a really intriguing series of CPU boards
offered for the PC...

Amongst the ones that I can remember were the 8086, Z80B and
(!!!!) M68000 !!! And (and this is a big AND) the company claimed that
they had UNIX System III running! Not only that, they are planning a
compatible board with the new National Semiconductor 32-bit chip (the
18000, or something...??) that will feature 4.2BSD!!!!

Also, another company is supossed to have XENIX running on the
regular PC, with more memory only! And XENIX is supposedly the best
of the pseudo-UNIX systems!

Anyone else heard of any of this, or did my roommate stop off
at a printer and pull a fast one on me?

(Amazing how all the paragraphs seem to start with 'a'!)
