[net.micro.pc] MS-DOS Librarian & .OBJ Format

Hess.Unicorn%MIT-MULTICS@sri-unix.UUCP (06/09/83)

To get a librarian, purchase an MS-DOS system from another vendor who
DOES supply it. Ideally, the TI or Heath/Zenith would be good
choices, since you can read the disks directly. But I don't know
whether or not the TI-DOS or Z-DOS distribution disks have the
librarian; this is just a possibility. The way we did it was to buy a
Tecmar DOS and get a friend with that machine (8 inch disks) to
download to us.

My Intel doc says "8086 Relocatable Object Module Formats. An Intel
Technical Specification. Order Number 121748-001. Copyright 1981..."
It contains the .OBJ format, but not a library format. And it's
pretty messy stuff -- I'll bet that most compilers only use 10-25% of
what's available in the format.
