Sorry for taking so long to post the results of my request for info on Unix for the PC. The reason for the delay is the lack of hard facts on most of the systems. Several people have seen the article on LanTech's uNETix, but no one even has an address for them. Reports are that Xenix will be ported soon, but no one had a date. The only system which people have actually used is Coherent by Mark Williams. Reports are that this is a full V7 system (minus UUCP) for $400. It requires 256K and a hard disk (the system takes up 2M). I received only favorable comments about the system. I would appreciate any other information people can pass me on Unix for the PC. And if anyone ever gets the illusive LanTech's address, I would appreciate learning what it is (a $99 Unix system sounds hard to pass up). Thanks to those that responded to the original request. The latest issue of BYTE magazine says (p. 8): "Microsoft's version 3 of Xenix will be available soon for the Altos 586 and by November for the IBM PC. Because the entire Xenix package with all of its utility programs takes up about 8 magabytes, Microsoft has divided the system into modules. A single-user module will sell for $395. A multiuser module costs an additional $695. Two other modules can be added on top of the multiuser module: a system development module for advanced programming work ($495) and a module for advanced text processing and typesetting ($395)." -Jay Weber {...!seismo!rlgvax!cvl!jcw}
