[net.micro.pc] Comments on PC Tech. Journal?

peterr@utcsrgv.UUCP (Peter Rowley) (07/04/83)

  Has anyone out there got an opinion on the PC Technical Journal?
It's a technically oriented magazine that's a sister publication to
"PC". Both are now published by Ziff-Davis, but I believe the Tech J. is
only available by subscription. Is it worth subscribing to? The concept
looks good, but getting enough people to write interesting technical
material seems hard (cf. BYTE).
  Please mail responses to me and if there's sufficient response, I'll
summarize for this group.

I don't think the first issue of the PC Technical Journal has
come out yet (at least, I haven't gotten mine yet).

Vis-a-vis the PC Tech Journal... I've only seen issue #1, and it's fair to
middling. It's not very 'technical' at all, but at least the articles assume
a minimum level of background. They have a source listing for a Ratfor-like
preprocessor for Basic, and an article detailing the functioning of the color
graphics card. Beyond that, it's not very sophisticated.
Ideally, there'd be a publication like DDJ or somesuch dedicated to the PC;
the trouble (as the original poster pointed out) is that it's hard to find
technical types who can/will write articles.
