[net.micro.pc] MKFS for MS-DOS

boykin@datagen.UUCP (09/14/83)

This is really for romkey@mit-csr, but I can't seem to send mail directly
to him so I am posting my reply here.

Re: Not having a 'mkfs' type of capability under MS-DOS...

I'm not sure if this is available under PC-DOS (you never know what foolish
differences there are between 'generic' and 'IBM' versions); but at least
on a generic MS-DOS system there is a /c option to format (i.e. format/c
or format -c) which "C"lears the disk structure. This rebuilds the root
directory and clears the file allocation table(s). I think this is exactly
what you were looking for.
