Roughly in order of importance, I am looking for a C compiler which has: reasonably full C subset, assembler output, good diagnostics and documentation, efficient code, #define function (will take more preprocessor functions) and decent support. Nice but not necessary are 8087 support, I/O redirection, good subroutine package and editor. After reading the August '83 issue of BYTE, it looks like the De Smet compiler offered by C-Ware is my best bet. However, I missed articles if any in this newsgroup which mentioned De Smet. Has anyone used this on a Compaq? Also, any comments on Venix, which was not covered in the BYTE article? Please reply by mail. Will summarize to the net. Thanks. Loreen Breda
