A recent article explained the Tandy 2000's increased speed by comparing the bus width and clock speeds of the 80186 and the 8088. Another important factor is the internal construction of the 8018[68]: they both have seperate internal hardware to make address calculations. This means that an 8018[68] running at the same clock speed as the equivalent 808[68] is still about twice as fast.
