Why is PC/IX single-user ?? Venix/86 is a multi-user system - we have been running two terminals in addition to the PC console with no problems. It is a pity that IBM selected Interactive Systems for their PC UNIX. We have been using VenturCom's Venix/86 for 6 months and it is a good system - they support vi, C-shell, termcap, etc. which I doubt PC/IX will support. I definetly don't want to learn another screen editor. IBM apparently refuses to sign the Berkeley license agreement, so I doubt they'll ever release any Berkeley software, other than what appears on System 5. It appears from the description that appeared on the net that IBM hasn't even tried to maintain compatability with its UNIX on the Series/1 (called 'cpix'). cpix has a V7 kernel with a few System III utilities (sccs, cpio). You'd hope they'd at least try and have one common kernel ! Richard Stevens Health Systems International, New Haven, CT { decvax | hao | seismo | sdcsvax } ! kpno ! hsi ! stevens ihnp4 ! hsi ! stevens
