Programs that run in color with composite video, but not with RGB are using a programming technique called "artifacting." This makes use of raster scan delays and sloppiness (the old turn a bug into a feature trick!). This is a typical programming technique on such machines as ATARI, and cheaper machines like APPLE and COMMODORE 64.
