I just received a program called FILEPATH, which I saw advertised
in the recent issue of SoftTalk.
FILEPATH allows you to specify the subdirectories to search for a
file name being opened either by DOS 1.0 or DOS 1.1 I/O calls
under DOS 2.0.
When you execute a program from DOS 2.0, the current directory is
searched first, then the user specified PATH (if any). This works
fine. The problem occurs when the program you are running at-
tempts to bring in an overlay or load a data file which is in
anything but the current directory. If it isn't in your current
directory, DOS can't find it.
FILEPATH, however, will intercept the file open call, and look
through a list of paths you have specified via the FP (FILEPATH)
command.
Since I haven't seen mention of this on the net yet, I thought
I'd pass on the fact that *it works*! Best of all, it is only
$12.95+$1.50 handling.
The reason I am writing this is to let you know of the utility,
and also to ask if users have had experience with two other
similar programs which have just come out.
ALIAS This is being sold by Computer Innovations.
AKA I saw this in the blue pages of PC Magazine.
Both of the above two programs are selling for $60. Does anyone
have them, and what do they do that FILEPATH won't (which would
justify the higher price)?
Here is the address for the FILEPATH utility.
