[net.micro.pc] C86 and Computer Innovations

robint@teklds.UUCP (Robin Teitzel) (02/20/84)

Recently I purchased CI's C86 C compiler. The version number is
   V2.03C dated Feb. 12 1984. I recieved it Feb 15. This was
aproximently 2-3 weeks after ordering with a mistake on my part.
They simply called to correct order.

Prior to ordering I had talked to them regarding the optimizing
compiler release. They indicated it was very soon. (next monday
   I believe they said.

In reading the documentation that on the disks, It appears that
they have been correcting various bugs in the compiler and the
   libraries.

There are quite a few files that need to be "unsqueuzed". They
ship the code in a condensed format.

There are libraries for the large model and for the small model
of the compiler. There are also 2 libraries to support DOS 1.0
(and up) and DOS 2.0 only.

   It is a four stage compiler consiting of four seperate commands;
cc1,cc2,cc3,and cc4. The cc4 is the optimizing part of the
   compiler.

The output is now compatible with the Microsoft linker (or
the PC's if you think IBM). Also there is a switch to produce
assembly code for the Macro Assembler.

When I had talked to the Lady who answered the phone at CI, she
said that the Feb. release of the compiler would support 8087
code inline as opposed to being a subroutine call. From the
documentation all types appear to be there: inline (a switch),
an 8087 library, and a software implementation of the 8087 library.

I have not used the product extensively yet, so I have not
      verified.

One last note: CI has sent a letter along with the package
saying that if The letter is returned with the original
diskettes by April 1, CI will update the disks to whatever level
version they are shipping and return them to you. No charge.
