From: Randy Cole <COLE@USC-ISIB> According to a news item in the L.A. Times Business section, IBM announced the Portable Personal Computer Thursday. It has a 9 inch amber screen, comes with one 360K drive (expandable to two), a carrying case, weighs in at 30 (ugh) pounds, and lists at $2795. Amount of internal memory was unclear, although it is at least 256K. The article said it was compatible with "most" PC software and hardware. Randy Cole -------

#R:sri-arpa:-1668900:uicsl:7300015:000:247 uicsl!preece Feb 22 13:34:00 1984 Does anyone know what display board is going into the portable? The article I saw said it had color graphics output. So have they got a new board or have they added a printer port somewhere else (since the color/graphics board doesn't have one)?

The display on the IBM PPC is a composite video monitor with amber characters driven by the color/graphics card. Color output *is* available, but only for an external color monitor. The official documentation stresses that the monochrome display/adapter is not available for the PPC. -- Daniel M. O'Brien AT&T Bell Laboratories IH 1C-202 Naperville, IL 60566 ....!ihuxj!dob
