[] I seem to recall an item in this group awhile back about getting replacement parts for the IBM monochrome monitor. I have a friend whose monochrome display is flaking out badly, and we are beginning to suspect the flyback transformer. If someone could post (or repost) the IBM order number for the flyback, and the cost of this part, it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Ralph Stirling pur-ee!stirling

There has been some mention of "flakey" IBM monochrome monitors. I thought I would throw in my two cents worth. I had an intermittent problem with my monitor where the image on the screen would jump vertically. This usually occurred after the monitor had been on awhile. I took the unit apart, hoping to find some obvious cause of the problem. Believe it or not, I did! It seems that the monitor is built off-shore (read Taiwan) for IBM and then shipped to the states. In order to assure that all the alignment controls will remain undisturbed, they are adjusted by the manufacturer and then locked using some adhesive. On my unit, the vertical height control is located right next to the side of the monitor case. This control had been glued right to the case! Whenever the case was flexed in the proper manner, this control would change its setting. Isolating this control cured the monitor instability. I don't know how common this problem might be, but it might be worth a check. I also recall that it is not immediately obvious how to take the monitor case apart. Study it closely before you start in with the tools. Paul Lutt John Fluke Mfg. Co., Inc. Everett, WA {uw-beaver,decvax!microsof,ucbvax!lbl-csam,allegra,ssc-vax}!fluke!pwl
