Has Microsoft released a Librarian for MS/DOS (PC/DOS) yet? I could really use one for some of the work I am doing. Has anyone had any experience with any Librarian for DOS? Please respond by mail and I will summarize to the net. I am also still looking for information on Assemblers for the PC/XT. Understand from a local Intel rep that they have a product (ASM-86) but he was (get this) not allowed to give me the price or technical details on it. Turns out he is a sales trainee and they cannot give any info out so he has to get a regular salesman to call me.

Yes, Microsoft does have an MS-DOS object librarian...Oddly enough, the only way you can get it (that I know of) is to buy it as part of the Microsoft C compiler package. The librarian works as you expect....todd Todd Ogasawara -- University of Hawaii -- Dept. of Psychology { dual, vortex, uhpgvax }!islenet!todd

xxx I understand that ZDOS (the version of MS-DOS for the Zenith Z100) includes a librarian that will work on the IBM PC. ZDOS sells for around $150, I think. -- Kenton Lee, Bell Labs - WB wb3g!kfl or hoxna!kfl

There is a company that runs ads in the PC Tech Journal called Polytron. They apparently sell something called the "Polylibrarian", which is the product that Microsoft should have released but didn't (i.e. an object module library generator/maintenance program). Their address is DS 3-310 P.O. Box 787 Hillsboro, OR 97123 I have never used their product, have never seen a review, and have no idea whatsoever if it works as advertised. If it does, however, it would be what you're after. -- -Bernie Roehl (University of Waterloo)

Not only does ZDOS come with the librarian, it also comes with an assembler. If you don't already have it, this might be a inexpensive (??? at $150 you say ???) to get both. -- Daniel M. O'Brien AT&T Bell Laboratories IH 4A-258 Naperville, IL 60566 ....!ihuxj!dob

Microsoft DOES have an object module librarian. Unfortunately, the only way to get it is to purchase their $500 Microsoft C Compiler (aka Lattice C). It might be possible to purchase it separately though. You might want to contact Microsoft (ha! if you can get someone over there on the phone!) and check on that possibility. ------------ The Microsoft librarian is also available as part of the MS-DOS (ZDOS) available for the Z100 from Heath/Zenith. The disk format is compatible with IBM-PC, although many of the Zenith-written utilities are not.
