[net.micro.pc] Microsoft Flight Sim, Quadram Clock Calendar questions

mark@cbosgd.UUCP (Mark Horton) (05/29/84)

Does anyone have documentation on how to get at the Quadram clock
calendar from C? (Venex, to be specific, but on a PC it doesn't
really make that much difference. Is it IBM compatible from software?)

I have a copy of the Microsoft Flight Simultor (yes, I paid for it
and yes I have the manual). I have a few questions that I was unable
to answer.

By the way, I have the STB Graphics Plus monitor board, primarily because
I got it for less than an IBM monochrome monitor. It is claimed to do
graphics on an IBM monitor, but it won't work on an Amdek 310A for some
unclear reason. The STB board outputs color RGB but B/W composite. And
the MFS outputs (you guessed it), color composite but B/W RGB. So this
combination doesn't like each other at all.

I hooked it up using the composite output, using my VCR as an RF modulator,
onto my 19" color TV. Of course, the output is B/W, and I told MFS that
it's B/W (not that it made any difference).

The main problem is that the instrument panel is only readable if I'm in
radar mode. If I want to look out the window I can only read some of the
big dials, in particular the digital heading readouts and the flaps/tail/etc
indicators are a lost cause. Anyone know why? Would the problem go away
with a regular monitor avoiding the RF modulation? (Where does one buy
an RF modulator, anyway? Would a real one do better than my VCR?)

Also, sometimes a big hammer-like thing appears out the window in place of
any useful view. What is it, and how do I get my windows back?

Is there any way to transmit something on the voice radio? Can I receive
anything other than the intro message from the tower when I tune in?

Does anyone have any experience with any of the Commodore 64 flight simulators?
I just got a mag from Commodore that has 3 separate ads for them, all costing
around $30, and they all look MFS inspired.

Comment: the geography around San Diego is very poorly represented. I flew
down the coast from LA watching for Coronado Bay and was in Mexico before
I realized it! There ought to be tall buildings there to miss, like the
real Lindburgh Field, too.
