[net.micro.pc] IBM and displaywriter

[Arent you hungry...]

More on Displaywrite II. It works quite well, though it has *MAJOR*
compatibility problems with printers. The manual explicitly says that it
is the purchaser's responsibility to verify that the printer you are using
is compatible...

Unfortunately, the printer types are hard coded, which makes them
hard to change... Here at Haverford we had hoped to use this package for
student WP on 4 Nec 7730's which we already have (~8K$). Well,
Displaywrite II works on the NEC 3550, but on the 7730 it was just LOSE,
LOSE. The moral of the story is *ASK*. It is a new product, and IBM is
showing signs of learning from their early release mistakes (like the
printer tables).

If you have a 3550 compatible printer, however, I heartily
recommend the product. It has all of the advantages of simplicity and
efficacy.
