In response to the person who wrote about the "switchar = \" disaster, if he types "switchar = -" then he can use either "/" or "\" for pathnames.

Well, he did that to start with, leaving out the spaces between the characters, and found to his horror that the command.com parser could no longer find files like PC-TALK becuase of the embedded "-" symbol. At the time, he commented to the net how dumb he found this to be, and received much advice about how to overcome the problem -- like using the "?" wildcard, as in PC?TALK. He was not advised as to how he could explain this to anyone without using the word "dumb" somewhere in the explanation. He now has a modified version of "restore" that recognizes "/" characters when they separate filenames, and works. He will mail a copy to anyone who asks, massaged via "uuencode" just prior to sending. The recipient will need access to "uudecode". But thanks for the advice, anyway. -- Ed Nather {allegra,ihnp4}!{ut-sally,noao}!utastro!nather Astronomy Dept., U. of Texas, Austin
