[net.micro.pc] Microsoft Word Update; clarification of Popcorn article

peterr@utcsrgv.UUCP (Peter Rowley) (08/22/84)

Thanks to the friendly people at Microsoft Customer Service who saw to it
that I received my Microsoft Word Update. It's a nice version, and improves
upon what I already said in this group is a good product. Particularly good
news is that Microsoft will soon publish a book on using Word, an excerpt
of which is included in the update (and in new copies of Word).

A clarification on my article on the PC AT (Popcorn), in which I quoted an
IBM Toronto Product Centre Rep. as saying that DOS 3.0 was a temporary
product: she did indeed say that 3.0 will be available only for a limited
time, to be soon replaced by 3.1, leaving 2.1 and 3.1 as the standard DOS
products. IBM price sheets reflect this, with prices for both 3.0 and 3.1
listed, along with a price for upgrading 3.0 to 3.1. Her other comments were
probably not based in fact and quite probably should not have been repeated,
though one is used to thinking of IBM employees as fairly reliable. My
apologies to anyone inconvenienced or annoyed.
