Once again, a plea for help! I just purchased a Diablo 1650 printer/ terminal and I need help with the DIP switch settings found on the main PC card in the printer -- not the operator DIP switches found at the front of the printer. I need to enable XON/XOFF so that I can send data at higher speeds than 300 bps. I would like to utilize the full printing potential of this printer. Perhaps someone out there in net land has one?!? If you do and don't know what the switch settings MEAN, just send me YOUR configuration of the switches. Also, any pointers to a manual for the 1650 would be greatly appreciated. (Is there a net.printer or an INFO-PRINTERS)? - Lester -

Additional manuals are as follows: Product Description #90412 Maintenance Manual #90413 Parts Catalog #90414 Printer Supplies Catalog #90007 The DIP switch settings an the HPR04 PC Board are as follows: The switch block is labeled as A25. #1 Enhanced 2741 - This switch is used in conjunction with the control panel ANSI/2741 switch. If the 2741 option is installed, placing this switch on enhances the normal IBM 2741 mode to include all ASCII mode functions. #2 ETX/ACK Enable- This switch is used to aid operation with a high speed host system. The host transmits data strings faster than the 1650 can print, and the string is stored in memory along with an ETX code near its end. The 1650, upon using up the stored data encounters the ETX code and, if this switch is on transmits an ACK code to the host as a signal to send more data. #3 DC1/DC3 Enable- If this switch is on, the 1650 will transmit a DC3 (XON/XOFF) to the host system whenever the terminal is unable to accept data input(memory full, cover open, paper out, ribbon out, or printer in check). The 1650 will then transmit a DC1 signal to the host system once the problem has been cleared. Upon receipt of the DC1 signal, the host will resume transmitting data. #4 Correspondence- This switch is also used in conjunction with the control panel ANSI/2741 switch. When the 1650 is being operated in the 2741 mode, placing this switch to on causes data communication to be carried out using IBM Correspondence rather than IBM PTTC?EBCD codes and protocol. #5 - #8 Ignored To use #1 or #4 an additional board must be installed, I think it is called the XMEM2 PC Board. If you have that board installed the 1650 will do all manner of interesting things, such as proportional spacing, auto center, and other word processing goodies. The only DIP switch on that board is labeled B12 and #1 - #3 are not used and #4 must be on when using the optional Auto Front Feeder. If I can be of any more help, let me know.
