I am interested in hooking up an HP Thinkjet printer to the auxiliary
serial port on a Teletype 5420 terminal, having heard that this printer
may be purchased with a serial interface. The Thinkjet product literature,
however, describes three interfaces:
1) Centronics parallel (standard IBM-PC --> printer)
2) HP-IB (HP's version of IEEE 488)
and
3) HP-IL ??
Is HP-IL HP's way of saying serial RS232-C or does this printer not
support such an interface? If anyone has experience or information on
this subject, please respond via phone or mail.
Thank you,

Thanks to all those who responded to my question about a serial
interface for the HP Thinkjet printer. The answer is no, the
Thinkjet is not (yet) offered with a serial interface. It may
be purchased with the following interfaces: Centronics, HP-IB,
and HP-IL, which I have been told is a Hewlett Packard proprietary
interface (not RS232-C as I had speculated). Some people said
they had heard rumors about possible introduction of a serial
interface in the short term, and one respondant from Teletype
Corp. even had a prototype version, however, no one had any
real info on when such a product might be offered.
