I recently purchased an IBM-PC Compatible (Tandy 1200), and would now
like to add a second parallel port to it. However, I have come across
the following problem, which I was unaware of before:
Brief description:
a) The new board is installed as LPT2: and has been strapped
at base address 0278h
b) This board is a Tecmar PC-Mate Captain Expansion board
and includes 340k ram, a serial port (strapped for COM1:)
a parallel port (the one in question) and a clock/timer.
The problem:
After installing the board, and running the supplied diagnostics
the board checks out ok. After attaching a printer to this new
port, the original port is empty, the MODE.EXE program supplied
with DOS tells me that LPT1: is offline or unconnected (ok) *and*
that LPT2: is the same way (not ok). Switching the printer to
LPT1: and running MODE.EXE again only informs me that LPT2: is
offline (correct).
So I experimented. I put a printer into LPT1: and type:
C> DIR >LPT1: (i get a listing on the printer)
then I typed:
C> DIR >LPT2: (again I get a listing on the printer)
Is this right?? Shouldn't DOS inform me that the device is
unavailable or something?
I should let you know that this parallel port works fine
in a second Tandy-1200, except that it will print data routed
to LPT2: (it's proper address) as well as LPT1: (this is not
right). It seems to have the opposite problem on the other
machine. The only difference between the two machines is that
the second one has a Tecmar Graphics Master card installed (very
nice, I might add).
Does any one have any suggestions for me? I apologize for the length of this,
but it was necessary to explain the circumstances. I have done many other
tests on the board, that I have not listed here.
Please respond via net-mail, to my address below, as I am not using
my own account for this posting.
