Infoworld had an interesting story in Dvorak's column last week about Morrows new PC compatible. It is $1800 with asorted goodies, the most noticible of which is a EMPROM. Burner. It seems the IBM PC's BIOS can be copied and will then work in the Morrow (or most other PC Clones for that matter) . Of course Morrow does not officially endorse this practice.... Frankly, IBM has a long history of abusive use of patent and trade secret laws so I can't feel sorry for them. These laws were originally designed to promote advancement of the state of the art. IBM has in the past speant millions to keep people from designing plug in boards for their mainframes. While legal, I see no reason my tax dollars should subsidize such activities through provision of legal protection. The above views are my own and not those of my employer.
