I have heard rumours about Unix varients to run on the AT or a yet to be anounced new IBM pc. Also the visual icon shell of AT&T 7300 throws in a twist. As a prospective buyer of a Unix to run on the IBM AT, can anyone address the following points: 1) Will the Xenix 3.0 be upgradable to the planned Unix V compatable Xenix 5.0. 2) Are there visual icon oriented shells planned to interface with Xenix on the AT, specifically using the new Enhanced Graphics Adapter. 3) Will major statistical packages such as SPSS and BMDP, now running under MS-DOS on the IBM's, be executable under Xenix or equivalent? 4) And most importantly, will the text processor extension of Xenix, now with tbl and eqn, support the biblographic refer package in the future? (without which academic life as we know it is not possible) 5) Should I just buy the AT&T 7300 and forget all this? Unix - TM Bell labs. Xenix - TM of Microsoft I think. AT&T - Is this a trademark? My employers don't know what I'm talking about. Chris Chute, MD Department Internal Medicine Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center Hanover, NH
